Microsoft has announced the new stable version of Microsoft Edge 88.0, which includes a number of new privacy, security and performance features. The update has been presented to users over the past few hours.
What’s new in Microsoft Edge 88
For starters, the browser now has a search option in the sidebar. You may remember the Ask Cortana feature of the classic Microsoft Edge application. For example, you can highlight a text, right-click on it, and search for a selection using Bing search, with the search result displayed in the sidebar.
On the new tab, you can see new emails from Outlook. This only works if this email service is linked to shortcuts. You will also need to use a Microsoft account for this.
If you use Edge on a laptop or tablet, you can take advantage of the new energy efficiency changes. The Tab Hibernate feature allows you to keep inactive tabs after a period of time to free up resources for other tabs and ensure high performance even on slower devices.
When registering on the websites, Edge asks you to generate a secure password. If you select this option, the password is automatically saved in your browser and synced to the cloud through your Microsoft account. So we don’t lose him.
In addition, Edge has a built-in password tracking feature that alerts you if any of your passwords are at risk of falling into the hands of attackers.
Adobe Flash is no longer supported
Microsoft Edge 88 is the first version that does not support Adobe Flash. It is no longer possible to read Flash content in the browser.
- There are also new icons for a range of dishes and menus that fit perfectly with Fluent Design’s ideas.
- New option to delete third-party cookies with a single click.
- Edge can now sync open tabs and browsing history between devices.
- Insufficient FTP protocol support. Support for the old FTP protocol has been removed in Microsoft Edge. When you try to access the FTP link, the browser prompts the operating system to open an external application to process the FTP link. IT administrators can also configure Microsoft Edge to use IE mode for sites that rely on the FTP protocol.
